Through the good graces of Oak Knoll Books and the British Library, the 
full text of John Carter's "ABC For Book Collectors" is available as a 
free pdf download at:

If you haven't read it, it is a wonderful book.  This and Don 
Etherington's book are the only two dictionaries that I've ever read 
cover to cover.
