[GBW] post for NE chapter
Hello, may I have this request posted on the GBW email list? Thanks you, Barbara Adams Hebard
Dear Members of GBW;
The New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers is proud to announce Inspired Design: The Mentoring Stamp, an upcoming exhibition of its members' work to be shown at the Neilson Library at Smith College in August-December 2008. This exhibition, co-curated by Barbara Blumenthal, book arts specialist in Smith's rare book collection, and me, NE Chapter Exhibition Coordinator, includes more than 3 dozen bindings by well known GBW members from across the United States. These book workers have created unique bindings to cover the limited edition text block of Lance Hidy's Designing the Mentoring Stamp, an account of the design process involved in creating his USPS commemorative postage stamp. This engaging and well written text, with lavish color illustrations of Hidy's work was designed and published by the Kat Ran Press of Florence and Cambridge, MA. The exhibition will feature drawings and mock-ups by Lance Hidy as well as the specially created bindings.
The New England Chapter will be celebrating with an exciting opening reception featuring a talk by Lance Hidy and presentations of binding awards. The chapter is also producing a top quality exhibition catalog designed by Michael Russem of Kat Ran Press. This full color catalog will be a sewn edition, and consequently is a more expensive production than we usually undertake. I am writing to ask if you would be willing to contribute towards the cost of the production of this deluxe catalog. Your donation will be gratefully acknowledged in the catalog and at the opening reception. Categories for contribution are as follows:
Friend up to $50
Sponsor $51-$100
Benefactor $101-$300
Patron $301 and up
Because the final copy for the catalog's acknowledgments page is due imminently, I ask that you consider sending your tax-deductible donation before March 31 so your name can appear on that page. I hope that you will help us celebrate this important chapter exhibition with a donation; your contribution, large or small, will be greatly appreciated. Please send any contributions (checks made out to the Guild of Book Workers) to: Barbara Adams Hebard, 36 Cutter Street, Melrose, MA 02176.
Many New England Chapter members and the Smith College community will gather for the opening reception this fall, where they hope to be able to thank you in person for your support of this historic catalog.
With best wishes,
Barbara Adams Hebard
NE Chapter Exhibition Coordinator
