Re: [GBW] UV protection film/tube for fluorescent lighting

Do your light fixtures have a translucent acrylic shield or are the bare
tubes exposed? In our experience the translucent plastic covers on
florescent fixtures by themselves filter out most of the UV light. Putting
sleeves or tubes on the lights themselves is a bit of a belt and braces
approach--but it does mean an extra level of safety.

We've used the Mylar jackets (flexible tubes) on our T8 florescents for some
5-6 years now and they have held up well. Because the T8s are smaller than
the old standard T12s, be sure to specify size for T8s when you order the
jackets.
