Re: [GBW] Joe Newman

Jim:

Thanks for the news about Joe Newman. I hadn't seen him for several years, but he was one of the first binders I talked to about teaching at NBSS. I'm sad to hear of his passing.

I expect that Chela Metzger will visit us here on Thursday, and we will have some lunch and talk about the future at NBSS. Mark is scheduled to return from London on Wednesday night. If your schedule is open at that time, I'd be delighted if you could join us for lunch. Chela is coming around 11:45 to look around. So we'll be headed to lunch around noon. Let me know if you can squeeze this in.

I'm sorry to have to use the listserv to announce such sad news, but it
seemed the quickest way to let everyone know that Joe Newman, a long time
member of the Guild, passed away Saturday afternoon after a long battle with
cancer. He was 58 years old.

Joe was the president of the New England Chapter for four years in the early
1990s. Early in his career, Joe worked at the Harcourt Bindery in Boston,
then founded the Pride's Crossing Bindery. He worked for the last twenty
years as a book conservator at the Northeast Document Conservation Center.
