[GBW] Artists' Book Workshops at the University of the West of
England, Bristol, UK, 51º25'14.55" N, 2º38'16.62"W
The University of the West of England is offering two summer schools
led by renowned book artist Guy Begbie:
Bookbinding for artists Summer School Led by Guy Begbie
Dates: 16 ? 20 July 2007, time: 9.30am ? 4.30pm (lunch provided each day)
Price: £225 per person
The book is a viable, visual medium that can provide links and
meeting points between many art disciplines such as print, painting
and sculpture. It is perhaps the most intimate, easily accessible and
portable of all the art forms. In this intensive five-day course both
traditional and unorthodox bookbinding structures will be taught. The
course is designed to be appropriate for people with or without
previous experience.
Limited to 10 participants.
Laser Cutting and Book structures for artists books Summer School Led
by Guy Begbie and Claire Humphries
Dates: 23? 27 July 2007, time: 9.30am? 4.30pm (lunch provided each day)
Price: £300 per person
The course covers laser cutting papers, and paper structures and
bindings for book artists. Laser cutting machines are a fast and
effective method of cutting, engraving/etching and marking papers,
textiles, wood and many types of plastics. The use of this technology
in many industries has massively increased over recent years. The
University's Centre for Fine Print Research has been developing its
flat bed laser facilities since 2004. The centre, in collaboration
with Senior Research Fellow Janet Stoyel, has pioneered methodologies
for artists, designers and craftspeople. Within the wider university
the laser facilities have been utilised by various departments, one
of this year's success stories being textile student Megan Taylor,
winner of the DKNY prize at New Designers. The centre has three laser
machines for cutting wood, paper and plastics. Claire Humphries has
worked in industry for four years specialising as a laser consultant
mainly within the textiles industry. Her most recent projects have
focused on promoting the use of laser technology throughout the
design industry.
Limited to 10 participants.
We can offer a 25% discount to participants booking onto both summer
school courses.
