Immediate Opening for Summer Conservation Assistant
American Antiquarian Society
The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) has an opening for a conservation
assistant during the months of June, July and August. This position will
provide assistance with the rehousing and repair of books from the reading
room and reference collections.
Tasks will include the making of custom enclosures, the cleaning and mending
of paper, the resewing and rebacking with cloth of bound volumes, as well as
other binding repair measures.
Sound knowledge of basic bookbinding and repair techniques is essential;
prior work experience preferable, but not required. Minority candidates are
strongly encouraged.
Work hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional
