OCAC Centennial Exhibition Series
Shows honor 100 years of OCAC
>From small workshops taught in the home of founder Julia Hoffman in
1907-to a wooded 9.5-acre campus serving thousands of adults and
children in 2007-Oregon College of Art & Craft has come a long way in
100 years.
As a principal center for education, creative expression, and the
mastery of contemporary craft for future generations of artists and
makers, OCAC is proud to celebrate its 100th anniversary with a special
Centennial Exhibition Series.
As the only private art college west of the Mississippi to offer an
accredited BFA in Crafts, OCAC is a superb laboratory for the invention
of modern craft. The Centennial Exhibition Series celebrates OCAC's
unique position, and it's contribution to the community over the last
100 years.
Alumni Exhibition: January 11-February 22, 2007
With over seventy alumni participating, this exhibition showcases the
next generation of craftspeople, artists, makers, designers,
fabricators, and crystalline thinkers. Featuring both two- and
three-dimensional work in contemporary art and craft media, the
invitational exhibition honors the College's alumni and their
realization of becoming professional, working artists.
Juried High School Exhibition: March 1-March 22, 2007
Opening reception Thursday, March 1, 4:00-7:00pm
With twenty public and private high schools in the Portland area invited
to participate, this inaugural exhibition is designed to provide
students the opportunity to exhibit both two- and three-dimensional
work, and get experience pricing and selling their work in a gallery
setting. As an institution dedicated to local and regional art and craft
outreach, OCAC is proud to support our community's young artists, its
high school visual art programs and their instructors.
OCAC Juried Student Exhibition: April 5-April 29, 2007
Opening reception Thursday, April 5, 4:00-7:00pm
This exhibition offers the community a glimpse at the innovative artwork
of emerging craft artists in the College's degree and continuing
education program. This annual show features the most exciting and
original work created during the academic year. Innovative approaches,
stylized techniques and personal imagery contribute to pieces ranging
from utilitarian to conceptual to autobiographical.

May 3-June 1, 2007 (Portland Art Center)

4:00-7:00pm
OCAC opening reception: May 17, 4:00-7:00pm
Students in the College's BFA and Certificate programs spend their final
year perfecting their craft in the creation of an original body of work.
This final thesis project reflects their personal and conceptual ideas
and finely tuned craftsmanship. The entire learning experience at Oregon
College of Art & Craft culminates in the exhibition of their work.
Turned Green: June 28-July 22, 2007
Opening reception Thursday, June 28, 4:00-7:00pm
In conjunction with the national conference for the American Association
of Woodturners, the exhibition is intended to highlight the way that
environmental consciousness can be applied to woodturning. The included
work showcases a degree of environmental sensitivity and tree
conservation, in addition to craftsmanship and aesthetics.
Craft Biennial: August 2-September 28, 2007
Opening reception Thursday, August 2, 4:00-7:00pm
The fifth in a series of biennial exhibitions devoted solely to handmade
work in the Northwest, this show provides a unique opportunity to
examine the state of craft in Oregon and Washington. The goal of the
exhibition is stimulating artistic excellence in craft and encouraging
artists to explore issues and further their creative expressions.
Artist-In-Residence Exhibition: October 4-October 28, 2007
Opening reception Thursday, October 4, 4:00-7:00pm
The College's Artist-in-Residence Program brings both emerging and
nationally known artists to the Portland metro area. The program
provides them with the time, resources and equipment to push their work
in new directions, while interacting with the community. By bringing
their fresh perspective to the art making process, the residents add
great richness to the College by sharing ideas and providing
inspiration. The exhibition unveils the work created by the visiting
artists during their residencies.
Faculty Exhibition: November 1-December 23, 2007
Opening reception Thursday, November 1, 4:00-7:00pm
This biennial exhibition offers an opportunity to see new work created
by the OCAC degree program faculty, whose members are working studio
artists exhibiting both regionally and nationally. This group show also
demonstrates the wide range of technical and conceptual concerns
addressed by the instructors in all the College's media- book arts,
ceramics, drawing and painting, fibers, metals, photography and wood.
For one hundred years, Oregon College of Art & Craft has been dedicated
to excellence in teaching art through craft, contributing significantly
to the continuity of contemporary craft as an artistic expression. The
College offers a four-year BFA in Crafts, two Certificate Programs and
year-round studio classes and workshops for adults and children.
Established in 1907, Oregon College of Art & Craft is nationally
accredited through the National Association of Schools of Art and Design
and receives support from the Oregon Arts Commission.
