Hi Bobbie,

I went with a small group 2 years ago with Nancy Jacobi of The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto. We visited papermakers on the island of Shikoku and other artisans in the Kyoto area. I suggest you contact Nancy Jacobi for suggestions, although I can't guarantee that she'll actually give you any. She has her "pets" and they are located in remote mountain villages, way way off the beaten path.

You might also contact Hiromi in California. She also has led tours in Japan. I think you might find references on her website (?)

   I have an opportunity to go to Tokyo in November on business.  I could 
arrange a day or two to do some exploring.  Does anyone have any 
recommendations on hand papermakers to visit, or perhaps tours that can be 
set up/arranged to visit papermakers?
