[GBW] Joint repair with Japanese tissue
Hello there, I have a query that I'm hoping someone here can answer for me...
One of my customers has a set of 48 19th century books bound in calf, and the leather has deteriorated on half a dozen of them to the point where you can see daylight through the joint! At this stage she isn't considering a full restoration, so we need a way of keeping these few books intact until she can pass them onto her son.
I've heard a lot of talk about strengthening the joints with Japanese tissue, which sounds like the way to go. What's the recommended way of going about this? And would this be the way to reinforce the marbled endpapers too?
Your comments would be welcomed!
Best wishes,
Tony Farthing
