[GBW] New York workshop with Hedi Kyle

The New York Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers is pleased to announce a workshop on storage books with Hedi Kyle. 
This two-day workshop will be held on October 15 & 16 from 9:00 - 4:00 at the New York Academy of Medicine in Manhattan.                   
As versatile containers and packaging devices storage books can accommodate all sorts of texts, images, and even small objects. This workshop focuses on practical and creative solutions to store and display content. With many samples on hand we will examine structural features and mechanical functions. Assembling several small scale models will involve techniques such as folding, lacing, slotting, cutting, and sewing. 
Participants should bring contents that require the design of a special book structure. Some books may be folded from one sheet of paper while others abound with complexity. An assortment of materials is available but bring anything you would like to use in addition. Beginners are welcome.

Hedi Kyle is Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She recently retired as chief conservator at the American Philosophical Society. She is co-founder of the Paper and Book Intensive.  

Workshop fee for Guild of Book Workers members is $ 145.00 and for non-members $175.00. The materials fee is $ 25.00
