Re: [GBW] reproduction of 19th century book cloth
You can also make historically accurate cloths yourself. Bill Minter has
been successful using a laminate of colored moriki tissue and muslin and
then pressing it under INTENSE pressure with various screens or grids on top
to impress the pattern into the cloth. I think you could also dye cloth to
the correct color and then impress these same patterns into just the cloth.
A bit more work but with some practice you can get cloth (or the paper/cloth
laminate) which looks amazingly like the original. Perhaps Bill could tell
us some more of what he has found as he's done this.
