[GBW] deacidifying
I'm looking for some advice. A client wants me to restore two Nazi
cigarette card books from the 1930s. He has asked that I deacidify
them. The paper is lousy, acidic paper, but virtually every page has
photos tipped in. The photos are not on photographic paper, but are on
glossy stock, thicker than magazine pages, but a similar sort of paper.
The photos are in fine shape. My gut instinct is to leave well enough
alone and recommend against trying to deacidify the paper. My worry is
the photos. Does anyone have any experience using Wei' To or some other
deacidifying spray or solution with such glossy photos?
Thanks,
Steve
p.s. I had asked earlier about paring machines; I broke down and bought
a Scharf-Fix 2000. It's the bees' knees for labels and onlay, although
I'm not yet convinced it's better than a French knife for regular
paring.
