Re: [GBW] saving original endsheets

Leslie,
Good luck! I understand the predicament.
       1. Re: copying in color. I supply my good paper to the copying shop.
       2. The below suggestion sounds reasonable. In some cases, the
paper can be moistened, but the danger is in wetting the board too
much. Maybe steaming.
       3. I also save leaves of old books to try to duplicate the
darkened sheets.
       4. Lifting a thin layer of the board may be reasonable, and
you can even moisten that layer section to remove it.
                               Rollin

I am interested in this topic as well. Sometimes I need to lift just the
inner edges to create flaps for certain repairs. I usually do this with our
special books and rare books. Once I tried to lift some of the cardboard
with the endpaper and was not sure what to do next. Help. Thanks

Tell us more. Age of book/paper, decorated/plain, what are you using to try
to remove?

My problem: I have been unsuccessful at removing the endsheets on a
book. They are beginning to tear. I think that I have been too timid in
removing them and have caused this. I would still like to save them. Any
suggestions in removing endsheets that are stubborn and torn? Or is it a
better idea to just finish tearing them off and replacing them with a good
paper? Someone suggested that I try to make a color copy of them, but I
do not know of a place that offers archival copying in my location
(Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas). Or if that is a good idea at all.

thanks,
Leslie
