A Printing Arts Fair adds to the festivities at North Andover's Traditional
Spring Celebration

Hot Type and Cool Books: A Printing Arts Fair at the Museum of Printing
History brings book arts printers and artisans to the North Andover Sheep
Shearing Festival

North Andover, MA - A Printing Arts Fair: Hot Type and Cool Books offers an
array of printing arts vendors and demonstrations to celebrate the Museum of
Printing History. The Fair opens alongside the 32nd Annual North Andover
Sheep Shearing festival on Sunday, May 23rd, 2004 on the North Andover Town
Common from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This festival draws over 10,000 people, and is on
Massachusetts Avenue, off I-95 at exits 42 and 43. Admission and events are
free.
The Printing Arts Fair showcases vendors' traditional and contemporary work
in
letterpress printing, bookbinding, woodblock prints, private press
publications,
and artists books, along with letterpress equipment for sale. These vendors
include: B Designs, Propolis Press, Quercus Press, Sea Dog Press, Swamp
Press,
and Warwick Press, among others. In addition, the Fair offers ongoing
demonstrations
of the printing arts and a raffle. The Museum of Printing History opens
its doors to guided tours of its holdings, a gift shop, and printing
activities for
kids, including a print-it-yourself turn on a press.
The North Andover Sheep shearing Festival features sheep herding, shearing,
wool spinning demonstrations, crafts fair, a lamb petting zoo, and pony
rides.
Local business owners will offer a wide range of food booths.
Free shuttle service to and from the festival is available from the parking
lot at
the Franklin School on Andover Street.
The Museum of Printing is dedicated to preserving the history of the graphic
arts, printing equipment and printing craftsmanship. In addition to many
special
collections and small exhibits, the museum contains hundreds of antique
printing,
typesetting and bindery machines, as well as a library of books and printing
related documents.
The Printing Arts Fair is presented by the Letterpress Guild of New England,
a group of professional printers, hobbyists, and others interested in the
art and
craft of letterpress.We meet for monthly studio trips, talks, and to share
