Re: [GBW] paring machines
It depends. For leather hinges, MM bindings, onlays, labels, they're great.
For larger pieces (full & 1/4 bindings) I'll edgepare with the Scharf-fix
and then finish with a spokeshave or Swiss paring knife (both beautifully
reworked by Jeff Peachey). In terms of spending the money though,
absolutely no regrets. If you teach workshops/classes, get two.

Thanks to all who replied, often with some detail! about the

One final question that no one addressed-- are they worth it? I've been
paring by hand with a French paring knife for 16 years. Will a machine
really speed up production that much? Will is be easier to get
super-thin pieces (e.g. for labels) than doing it by hand? If the
answers are yes, I'm going to get one.
Thanks again.
