Concept:
With this project MDE is hoping to revive the decorative aspects of
bookbinding and to promote this art in the surrounding artistic
world.
Participation:
The competition is open to all artists and designers. We are asking all
kinds of international artists, designers, sculptors, painters,
architects, publicists, stylists, teachers and art students to apply
their creativity to the art of bookbinding and to participate in this
competition.
Conditions:
We require a bookbinding design for a book of your choice. The design
should indicate the upper cover, the spine and the lower cover of the
binding, and have the same dimensions as the book chosen by the
participant. The design has to be realized in colors, or in black and
white, on strong drawing-paper which can be rolled in a cylinder with a
width of 10 cm maximum. Each artist can submit several designs. For each
design a participation fee of 60? (Euro) has to be paid. Payment by US
participants can be accepted in form of check or money order in the
amount of $75(US)/design.
NEW - Pay for two designs at the full rate and
submit a third free.
Please note:
The competition will take place on condition that the participation fee
of 2000 participants worldwide has been registered by June 1, 2004. If at
this time the number of participants has been obtained, the entry form
and a registration number will be distributed, and the participants can
start with their project. If the number of participants has not been
reached, the candidates will receive their entry fee back, minus 10
? (Euro) to cover administration costs. The MDE is free to extend the
closing date if necessary.
NOTE: In the event the exhibition does not reach
the minimum of 2000 participants, entry fees in the full amount of
$75/design will be returned to those participants from the US who paid
with form or check or money order.
The prize winners and the 200 exhibitors will be informed of their
selection. The exact date of the proclamation (in March 2005) will be
communicated to all the participants.
The prizes will be distributed in the Bibliothèque historique de la Ville
de Paris where all the selected works will be exhibited.
