This exciting event will interest calligraphers, painters,

invited to attend either the morning presentation or the afternoon
presentation-or stay for the entire day. GBW members are encouraged
to inform any non-member friends in the area that may be interested
in this event.
Nancy Jabobi owns and operates The Japanese Paper Place in Toronto,
Canada, and has an extensive background in the Japanese culture. She
lived and taught for many years in Japan, loves paper, and has come
to know many of the traditional papermakers in Japan. Check out her
web site for more information: www.japanesepaperplace.com.
Morning Presentation
The morning presentation (slides and talk) by Nancy will focus on
traditional methods of papermaking and the fibers that go into making
the fine oriental papers....about the traditional Japanese
papermakers themselves..... with information on the mending tissues
and papers for the bookbinder and the conservator. Nancy will have
just returned from a two-week trip in Japan, visiting the papermakers
and the areas in which they live and work, and will have lots of new
slides to share.
Following this presentation, Lone Star Chapter member volunteers will
demonstrating various usages of the Japanese papers for bookbinders,
book artists, and conservators. There may be handouts and sample
books available with some of the papers.
Afternoon Presentation
After a break for lunch, Nancy will again have an afternoon
presentation, this time providing information on the Japanese papers
for the artists involved in letterpress printing, stenciling, block
printing, hand lettering, shibori, marbling, painting, and such.
Table demonstrations will again follow keying in on these crafts.
During the day Nancy will have many of her fine papers available for
sale, especially those used in the table demonstrations. The
wonderful sample books from the Japanese Paper Place will also be
available for sale....and perhaps other items as well. All proceeds
from these sales will help pay for the expenses involved in having
Nancy come to Texas, and in sponsoring such an event!
