I'll respond to multiple lists on this as knew this question was coming...
This is a bookbinding design competition. Entrants will conceive a binding
for a book of their choice, representing that design in a two-dimensional
form. That representation can be be a very technical drawing, or more
conceptual, can include samples of the materials one would use... It is
only this design which is being submitted, not an actual book, the intent
being to open it up to a multitude of discipline. It is also these designs,
which will be exhibited. Does this make sense?
Although not online a really good example is the DeGolyer Triennial
organized by the Bridwell Library at SMU in Dallas. Entrants there also
submitted a binding, but it shows how rich and varied the concepts and
designs were in their aesthetic and presentation. I know that there are
several participants from the DeGolyer on the lists. Perhaps they can
contribute.

der Einbandkunst is a very serious German based (but international)
bookbinding organization of the highest caliber with a very rich history.
