[GBW] STANDARDS - FRIDAY FORUM UPDATE
Well it's almost Friday and time for the Friday Forum.
Friday Forum is a chance for all of those attending Standards to show off a
special technique, project, or lead a discussion on a topic of interest to
them. This year's theme is enclosures/boxes, but presentations and posters
on any topic are welcome. Posters in preparation for this Standards include:
Silvia Alotta -- Sanctum is a visual installation of a bookbinding studio
that combines the artist's passions for structure, process and tools.
Modeled after the ancient Hebraic structure, the Tabernacle, this piece
shown at the Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper MFA Thesis
Show. It showcases 3 pieces of bookbinding furniture: the sewing frame,
laying press and bookpress, redesigned and tooled from 6061 Aluminum,
anodized and plated in brass, silver and 24kt gold. The furniture will be
on display.
Pamela Barrios - A very small finishing detail on a box.
Jeanne Bennett -- Presentation and demonstration of a double-bladed
channel knife (the Bennett Channel Knife)
Carolee Campbell -- Examples of how to apply a high tack adhesive transfer
tape to glue metal to board and metal to metal for a limited edition book I
designed and bound with brass-bound boards. An example of the adhesive, a
spec sheet and a book before and after binding will be available for study.
Betsy Palmer Eldridge - "Finishing without Finishing Tools"
Sharon Long -- The Painted Clamshell Box With a Copper plate Inset.
Alice Vaughan and Mark Kirchner -- Solving the problem of binding projects
outputted on one sided pager, folded into one-page signatures. It is the
ultimate adhesive binding. We have some samples and would, if you think
anyone is interested, set it up and explain. Opens flat everytime.
Peter Verheyen / Donia Conn -- Historic endbands
A report of last years smash event from the Newsletter is on the Friday
Forum webpage at
<http://palimpsest.stanford.edu/byorg/gbw/standards/forum.shtml> has been
updated with some pictures. Also at the site are some tips on creating your
poster.
I look forward to seeing everyone's posters,
Peter
