CALL FOR ARTISTS PROPOSAL
The Living Room
Wichita Art Museum
Wichita, KS
June 2004-April 2005
The Wichita Art Museum is calling for artists to create and produce an
edition of ten identical books for purchase by the Museum. They will be
exhibited in The Living Room of the Wichita Art Museum, a self-guided,
interactive space for creative, imaginative play.
The Living Room is a place of learning about respectful investigation of art
within the museum setting. It features an annual installation by an artist
or a group of artists, with a variety of interactive elements designed to
assist with interpretation and enjoyment of the space by adults and
children.
>From submissions, ten artists will be chosen to participate in The Living
Room's exhibition. Because the definition of art books is not clearly
defined in contemporary dialogue, candidates' personal characterization is a
convincing determination of inclusion in this show. Books will be touched
and investigated by our audiences; this show will be a hands-on
investigation of the art form of books.
Work may be submitted by mail (slides, digital format, example of book art
creation) or electronically. Interested artists should also include a resume
or CV and a proposal for this project. Entry deadline is January 16, 2004.
Selection will be announced February 2, 2004. Completed work will be due to
the museum May 1st. The installation will be on view early summer through
April 2005. The Museum's purchase price will be $1250 for an edition of 10
identical books, which includes all costs except for shipping. The best
entries will contain clearly defined proposals that connect with the mission
of the Wichita Art Museum in the focus of the study of American art, the
connections that can be made with the Wichita, Kansas, community and
understanding of America's artistic heritage and evolving cultural identity.
No phone calls please. Questions or correspondence will be answered when
submitted by email: norlandm@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Submissions should be sent to: Education Department, Wichita Art Museum,
1400 West Museum Blvd., Wichita, KS 67203-3296.
Please forward to any interested artists that you might know.
