[GBW] BOOKBINDER'S TICKETS/LABELS
Dear Fellow Bookbinders,
I Apologize if you have Received this e-mail from Any other Source,
Thank You for your Understanding.
I want to Personally Thank All of you who have Responded to my
Request for Bookbinder's Tickets; either with Suggestions on who to
Contact, Kind Wishes, Offers for Tickets and Sending me your Personal
Tickets as well as other Tickets that you have Saved through the
years. I Thank You All From The Bottom Of My Heart, You Have Been
Truly Kind and Have Made My Research So Much Easier With Your
Contributions, I Will Never Forget What You've Done For Me, Thank
You!!!
Now, I would like to make another Respectful Request for
Bookbinder's Tickets, but this time I would also like to ask for
Colour Photocopies of them, either Collections or Individual Tickets.
I am an Amatuer Bookbinder and a Collector of Bookbinder's Tickets/Labels,
but More Importantly, I am doing Research for a Book on Bookbinder's
Tickets and the Bookbinders that they Represent. I'm wanting to
Include Every Bookbinder who has Ever or is Currently Using a Paper
Ticket/Label to "Sign" the Bindings that they Produced, Illustrating
each Ticket Design and All of it's Variations. I know that this is a
Daunting Task, but one that I believe is Well Worth my Time and
Efforts. I also know that this Book would be useful for: Provenance
Research, Book Collectors, Bookbinding Historians, Bookbinding
Enthusiasts, and Bookbinder's/Bookseller's Ticket Collectors such as
myself. Haven't you ever Wondered about the Bookbinder who Pasted the
Small Label in the Corner of a Lovely leather Binding??? I would like
to bring to light the Lives of those Bookbinder's, and give those who
are Interested a Place to go for the Information.
So, what I am asking for is; that if Anyone has Any Bookbinder's
Tickets/Labels that they would like to Sell or Trade (I have a small
handfull of Duplicate Bookbinder's and many Bookseller's Tickets that
I could Trade), or would be willing to make a Colour Photocopy of for
me (which I would Gladly Pay for), Please do e-mail me and let me
know. I am willing to Pay Almost Any Fair Amount for Bookbinder's
Tickets and would be Honoured if you would Send me a Copy of your
Personal Ticket/Label so that you can be Included in my Research and
my Book. Any Assistance that you can Provide me with or Anyone that
you might Recommend who might be of Assistance to me would be Greatly
Appreciated.
I am Particularly Interested in Binder's Tickets from the Southern
States: VIRGINIA, NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA, GEORGIA, FLORIDA,
MISSISSIPPI, ALABAMA, TENNESSEE, LOUISIANA, KENTUCKY, TEXAS, and
ARKANSAS, as I currently don't have Any from the South. I am also in
Need of Tickets from Any other State, the Only State that I have
quite a few from is Connecticutt. Currently my Collection of 360
Tickets is Primarilly made up of International Binders. I Know that
there are Many, Many Others that I don't have and aren't even Aware
of yet. So I ask you, Please help me to Find them, even if Only in a
Colour Photocopy, because I can't locate All of them on my own...
I want you All to know that I am NOT advocating the Removal of
Bookbinder's Tickets from Any Sound or Restorable Binding, as this
would be Unacceptable and would be a Crime to All Book Lovers. What I
am asking is, that if you are given a Book to Rebind or if a Book is
Un-Restorable, will you Please Save Any Bookbinder's or Bookseller's
Tickets that you might Find in them??? University Libraries are
Constantly Rebinding in Buckram, Books that have Wonderful Signed
Bindings complete with Bookbinder's/Bookseller's Tickets that have
been Abused or Damaged since they cannot Afford to Pay for Restoring
them. Please, if you are Working for a University Bindery, do work
for a University or know someone who is, Please Contact me, I will be
More than Happy to Pay you to Save the Binder's Tickets/Labels that
are in these Books. Simply send them to me, I will Make Absolutely
Sure that they are Protected and the Tickets and the Bookbinders that
they Represent will once again be known.
Thank You for taking the Time to read my this e-mail and my
Request. Please do let me know if you have Any Suggestions, Comments,
Recommendations or Even Better, Any Bookbinder's Tickets!!!! I Hope
to hear from you soon. Thank You, Please Take Care.
Yours Sincerely,
Jonathan B. Pons
