Inlet Workshops in Alaska

Inlet Art Workshops
July 15-July 27, 2001
University of Alaska Anchorage
Department of Art

The UAA Dept. of Art is offering 2 week intensive Inlet Art workshops. They
are
³The Multifaceted Book: An Artist's Consideration² with artist, performer
and book
conservator Susan Joy Share ³ and Beyond Function² ceramics workshop with
artist Brad Schweiger. These workshops are a great opportunity to enjoy
the splendor
of Alaska while having an intensive art education experience with
accomplished artists.

Susan Joy Share's workshop description:

³The Multifaceted Book: An Artist's Consideration²

This workshop is an introduction to bookbinding tools, materials
and techniques including methods of gluing, sewing, folding and hinging.
We will explore the book as a container for words and images, investigate
traditional and alternative structures, common and unusual materials, the
interplay between surface and form, and the configuration of the open book.
This workshop is appropriate for all artists including art teachers,
photographers,
printmakers, painters, sculptors, and graphic designers.

The workshops will be held entirely on the UAA campus, with room and board
available in our new Residence Halls. In addition to daily workshops there
will be opportunities to get to know Alaska and get out on the town.
Anchorage is a modern city of 260,000 nestled in the Chugach Mountain Range
and is definitely at its¹ best during the long 20 hour days of summer.
