There are strips of magnet for hanging maps - I think. It is self-adhesive
on both pieces and very thin and about a half inch wide. It comes in rolls
like tape. I've used this on miniature book boxes and it works well and
isn't bulky. I don't know where to get it, though. Someone gave me a
length. >>

Strip magnets are OK. They can be found in various places, i. e.
McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com or cle.sales@xxxxxxxxxxxx) or Edmund
Scientific (800-728-6999, www.scientificsonline.com). I say Ok because of
their limited magnetic power for their size. Also, you should be aware of the
alignment of the poles if they are used in pairs -- the two pieces will shift
if they are brought together.
You might want to consider Rare Earth magnets which are much more powerful
for their small size. For some items, they seem to be ideal for our type of
work.
