Stone Eye Exhibition Catalog

Richard Taylor, Kentucky's most recent poet laureate, and Gray Zeitz, letterpress printer and owner of Larkspur Press, have produced the collection of poetry Stone Eye. Thirty-one bindings of this book have been made by bookbinders from the Midwest and throughout the country. All of these binders are members of the national group the Guild of Book Workers. The Midwest Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers has organized an exhibition of these individually designed and hand-bound books. (Click here for a review of the opening in Kentucky.)

The exhibition catalog consists of both an abbreviated print version as well as a multimedia CD, which includes the bindings, readings by the poet, views of Kentucky, and traditional Kentucky old-time music. GBW Midwest Chapter member Pamela Rups of Kalamazoo, Michigan, is producing the Guild's first multimedia exhibition catalog. For a listing of the contents of both, click here. A deluxe edition, including a stone engraved with the stylized eye symbol, is also available.

Every Stone Eye Catalog includes a stone. The stone in Deluxe edition is engraved with an eye.

The exhibition will travel throughout the Midwest to the following venues, where you can also purchase the catalog:

  • March 4-31: King Library, University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky
  • April 14-May 18: St Louis Artists' Guild, St Louis, Missouri
